So the Icedogs get to go to local schools and read to kids or whatever the teacher needs them to do. They usually do this right after practice. Since Jared still has a couple of classes at the high school, he never gets to do this as he always has to go back to class. I had him come to the kindergarten class that I work in. Here is talking about having good grades and to stay in school.
He brought Carson's old hockey gear with him, and he dresses one of the boys in the class in the gear.

Next it is one of the girls....after all girls play hockey too!
Her smile tells it all!

Finally he handed out a autographed pictures of himself that I printed up.

Group shot! They loved having him. It was good community service for Jared, along with practicing those speaking 'in public' skills. Plus, I got to show off one of my kids for a few minutes!

As part of Hockey week in Fairbanks, the Icedogs, along with some of the men and ladies UAF hockey teams, went to Peger Lake for some skating with interested fans.
Jared is sitting in the front row far left.

Jared is in the red, white and greenish blue striped knitted hat on the right.

I stole these from a friends facebook, who takes pictrues for the Icedogs.

These two were from his roadtrip in Texas!

Anthem before Friday nights game.
This was during Saturday nights game. It was military appreciation night. The guy to the far left of the picture was getting ready to sing God Bless the USA. One of my very favorite songs. It was really nice. Most fans were singing along. I loved it! (Even though I had a Canadian and a Russian standing right behind me!).

Aren't they pretty?

Jared and Tayler after the game.
Overall, I think this has a been a great experience for these boys. Getting to practice with them everyday. I think they got around 13 or 14 games each. Although, we as parents though their playing time should have been way more, it was really great to see them out there, holding their own as 16 year olds, against older, stronger opponents. It was also humbling for them, and us to have to sit the bench. They have always gotten the most playing time on their teams, so it was probably a good thing for them to appreciate what their teammates have had to endure in the past. I know it was for me anyways. I was a bench warmer in High School basketball, so I know the feeling personally, but boy it sure is different feeling that for one of your children. But really, it was a very good thing for these boys. I look forward to seeing what they do next year and watching them improve even more as players and people!
Good luck boys!

Proud Papa!

So my friend Becky did a post about Reality TV....so I thought why not give it a shot too. She did hers on Wife Swap, I will try the Bachelor!
So really, Vienna has to still be there out of default, don't you think?
Ally decided to walk away because her job came a calling and said come back to work or else your fired. Jake (aka the Bachelor) basically told her she was not going to be eliminated this week, that he really liked her, but could not guarantee a ring at this point. (4 ladies left). First off Ally's tears really annoyed me. "I'm so torn, I don't know what to do, help me..." Ugh...really if you really loved this man, no job would hold you back. But alas she chose work, over Jake. So there was no rose ceremony, so Vienna got to stay. I have not liked Vienna since early on. I don't find her as attractive as the other ladies. She has beady eyes that are always darting around. She just has something about her that really gets to all the other woman, me included. I just have to assume that she would have been the woman to be eliminated, had Ally not chosen to leave the show, or would she have been? I mean Jake is a fairly good looking guy. He is a pilot, so he must make good money and he is probably in his late 20's ealry 30's? Why isn't he already snapped up? As Kelly Clarkson would say, "he's pretty messed up too," (Probably). I guess you would have to be, to be on this show looking for love, that or you just want to be on TV.
PS in next week's previews, we see Jake getting a phone call from Ally...aah she will probably come back. Drama.
Yes...I have no drama in my real life, I have to get it from TV.

Here is Carson getting his 'good grade' certificate at school this morning. He got a 3.43 GPA. Last quarter he had a 3.83 (I think it was). He told me about the ceremony at the school, and I didn't write it on the calendar. One of my co-workers whose son is also at the middle school was talking about her son's ceremony and I assumed they were the same day. Wrong. Her son is in a different grade, so I missed Carson's. I think he was disappointed, as was I.
Anyways, for this quarter, he walked right into the house and personally wrote it on the calendar. Luckily, both Derek and I were able to make it. I think there were about 12 parents there. This takes place at 8am. Kind of a weird time, but anyways, we were there this time to see him get his certificate.
Proud of you Carson, as always!

So this is how we enjoy Jared's games when he is out of Fairbanks.
You can watch the games on the B2 network online. Sometimes the feeds are perfect and sometimes not so perfect. They can freeze up and skip, or go to blackscreen.
Tonight the camera made it look like we were watching hockey on the tv from the 1970's. Super bad color, and the players were tiny. Hard to tell who is who sometimes.
Luckily though, we saw Jared get goal #2 for the Dogs, right before it froze up and we had to reboot the whole computer.
In the second picture that is Jared headed right in front of the net when he picks up the rebound and scores. (perfect time to be taking the picture, I guess).
Derek bought all the right cables (only 2 trips to Office Max and 2 trips to Fred's) to hook up the computer to the TV. We can watch and hear the games on the TV, instead of trying to look at the small computer screen.
